The Fisker Karma Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) ( earlier post ) will make its public driving debut during the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races on 15 August, 19 months after being unveiled as a concept car. Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. My parents live about 180 miles away, which is well outside the range of most electric cars. That’s 7 cents worth of electricity per mile driven. With a 55KWH battery, range is only 157 miles.

BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. it seems to me there is too much range anxiety about these machines.
