The BMW Mini E has hit the streets. Barely one year ago, word surfaced that an electric Mini was in the works. In June about 500 cars were placed in consumer and fleet hands in Los Angeles and New York and New Jersey for what BMW calls a " field trial." It is past the time for R & D for electric cars.

April sales figures are in for electric vehicle models in 10 European countries — Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark. The site EU-EVs.com have pulled the figures together, and I’ve created some charts of the April and January–April figures for this article.

The contract between the two companies provides that e.motor Advance will deliver 100 sets of its drivetrain and battery pack systems to Foton for their Midi-E electric car. The 100 Midi-E vehicles will be in service as taxis in the Yanqing area of Beijing in 2012. Sales are expected to reach this level within 3 years.

In 2008, MINI was a trailblazer for electromobility in the BMW Group. The MINI E was produced in a small series and used in a field trial to gather important insights into the use of an all-electric car in everyday traffic. Electrified vehicles now account for 10% of MINI sales.
