The Ampera is an extended range electric vehicle based on the Voltec technology used in the Chevrolet Volt. Equipped with a 16 kWh Li-ion battery pack, the five-door, four-seat hatchback has a battery-powered range of up to 60 km (37 miles) (MVEG cycle). The company also held the European premiere of the Cadillac SRX.

The yet-to-be-named Buick crossover will launch in late 2010, offering a family of fuel-efficient direct-injected gasoline engines, followed in 2011 by the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model. direct-injected V-6, and is expected to deliver 30 mpg or more on the highway. direct-injected four-cylinder engine with an optional 3.0L engine side.

A comparable SUV, such as a 2023 Ford Explorer AWD with the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an EPA highway rating of 26 miles per gallon, would have used 69 gallons of gasoline. The fuel costs we saw posted during our trip averaged $4 per gallon for 87 octane, which would be $276 gasoline costs, so advantage electric, but not by much.
