The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy today released the 2010 Fuel Economy Guide, which gives consumers information about estimated fuel costs and mileage standards for model year 2010 vehicles. For MY 2010, the Prius is the top fuel economy leader , with EPA ratings of 51/48 mpg city/highway.

Ford is pricing the new C-MAX Energi—expected to offer 15 class-exclusive features, a 550-mile (885 km) total range and more than 20 miles (32 km) of electric-only range ( earlier post )—at $33,745. —Michael O’Brien, Ford electrified vehicle marketing manager.

Ford has done it's share of electric cars, including the Ranger EV and Th!nk The #2 US automaker has made a few plug-in hybrid Escape Hybrids that have been in a test fleet at Southern California Edison for about 18 months. Plans for a 2012 general release of the PHEV Escape did not wow anyone. All eyes are fixed on 2011.

The long-time knock against “green” cars, trucks and SUVs is that their sticker prices do not justify the gas savings. the Ford Escape Hybrid is compared against the conventional, gasoline-fueled Ford Escape. Clean diesels are generally priced at a lower premium and still offer significant fuel economy.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0"
