Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy), Everfuel Europe A/S, NEL Hydrogen A/S, GreenHydrogen AS, DSV Panalpina A/S, Hydrogen Denmark and Energinet Elsystemansvar A/S have been awarded funding of DKK 34.6 The plant will use electricity from offshore wind turbines to produce renewable hydrogen for buses, trucks and potentially taxis.

In Denmark, Air Liquide inaugurated HyBalance, a pilot site for the production of carbon-free hydrogen. As part of this project, Air Liquide developed, built, and is operating the facility that produces hydrogen from water electrolysis as well as the filling center for its customers delivered by trailers.

The new electrolyzer production plant, which will be constructed in Herning, Denmark, will be operational by 2024 and have an annual capacity of 500 MW with scalability up to 5 GW, making it one of the first industrial-scale plants of its kind. This is accomplished by three components: an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte.

FlagshipONE will be Ørsted’s first commercial-scale Power-to-X facility and is an important step towards Ørsted’s ambition of taking a leading position in renewable hydrogen and green fuels. The e-methanol from FlagshipONE will be produced using renewable electricity and biogenic carbon dioxide captured from Hörneborgsverket.

Once this gas is processed, Anaergia produces pipeline quality renewable natural gas (RNG) and a clean stream of carbon dioxide that normally gets released to the atmosphere. European Energy, a major multinational renewable wind and solar energy producer, will produce green e-methanol from this biogenic CO 2.
