Among electric vehicles from automakers that report specific sales numbers for their EV models, the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV was tops in the US in 2021 with 27,3707 units sold. Another top-selling EV beyond Tesla models that is not included is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV, which likely saw 2021 sales of between 20,000-25,000.

Second, we have some great new long-range high-volume BEVs scheduled to hit dealers in all 50 states in the coming months: Nissan Ariya, Volkswagen ID.4, Finally, this is the year that EV sales have completely take off in Europe.

If customer expectations are inflated (by automakers, dealers, power companies, environmental groups, and/or government officials) relative to what is actually experienced, the reputational damage to the technology could be significant and possibly irreparable.

Plug-in hybrid buyers received most information leading to the purchase from dealers and advertising material. Most BEV owners (71%) also own an ICEV, 4% a PHEV and 4% more than one BEV. 46% of PHEV owners and 48% of ICEV owners belong to single vehicle household. Only 2% will not buy a PHEV again.

Europe has gasoline taxes over $4 per gallon and still finds the need to adopt aggressive performance standards for cars to reduce GHGs and oil use. However, the IVMs say they need this same ability to pool ZEV and TZEV credits across state lines because some of them have few dealers in some of the Section 177 States.
