Researchers at Cornell will examine more fundamental aspects of blending butyl acetate with diesel fuel in the form of droplets that represent the sub-grid element of a spray used for fuel injection into combustion engines. The project goal is to understand how the fuel mix ignites and reacts in diesel engines used in commercial trucks.

It is generous to say that an acre of Iowa can provide 12,500 miles per year at a cost of 10 cents each. During the midday hours, many grids will experience negative pricing as solar PV floods the market to the extent that the power cannot be stored. What this country needed was a good 5-cent kWh, and now we have it.

Laredo Bus Facility Solar Canopies: Provide shade structures with integrated, grid tied photovoltaic cells to be erected on the bus storage lot at the Laredo Bus Maintenance Facility. This grant would allow ConnDOT to upgrade the upcoming purchases of buses and would fund the incremental cost of a hybrid bus compared to a conventional bus.

The funding is for the incremental cost of a battery electric bus over a CNG bus and leverages federal, state, local utilities and local match to purchase the battery electric buses for service expansion. These vehicles will be the first electric transit buses deployed in Iowa. Project partners are MidAmerican Energy and Proterra.
