It is important that the European Commission not only set new car CO2 targets for 2025 and 2030 but also limit the gap between laboratory and real-world levels by defining an on-road conformity factor for CO2, as it has already done for air pollutants.

Renault’s ongoing downsizing strategy is aimed at reducing the cubic capacity of its engines in order to bring down fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions, without detracting from performance. The downsizing process involved shortening the piston stroke by reducing the size of the crank pin and conrod assembly. Select Engines.

It is a high octane fuel with combustion characteristics that allow engines specifically designed for methanol fuel to match the best efficiencies of diesels while meeting current pollutant emission regulations. A bridging option is to use methanol derived from natural gas, with a CO2 intensity that is no worse than conventional fuels.

The objections they raised for years -- "no one is interested, no one would plug in, the technology is too complex, the benefits are minimal, its just shifting the pollution from the tailpipe to the smokestack, theres no demand for these cars" -- still show up occasionally, but are by and large history. We hope Ford will, and then move ahead!
