So it is welcome news to read about the efforts that have been made by Volvo Trucks to reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from transport to and from the company’s European factories. According to Ake Niklasson, the CEO of Volvo Logistics, the aim is to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by 2010.

Plans to introduce a full hybrid have been scrapped by Volvo – and in its place will be a series produced plug-in diesel hybrid. The vehicle, which will be introduced as early as 2012, will support a 31 mile all-electric range and for longer distances will turn to its diesel engine for a combined range of around 746 miles.

Volvo has strengthened its DRIVe range by combining the DRIVe technologies with its sports-inspired R-DESIGN bodykit to offer C30, S40 and V50 models with low levels of emissions and the highest levels of visual appeal. Looking at the remaining fuel sales in December, HEVs clocked 9% share, versus 5% a year ago, while petrol lost 26 % market share(!), now at 24% (it was 50% 12 months ago), while diesel was down 15% in share, to just 18%.
