Chinese Electric Car in 2008?

Plugs and Cars

I've long heard rumors of Chinese auto makers developing an electric car. It makes lots of sense, given Chinese battery production. I recalled hearing in 2005 that BYD acquired a license from Ovonics to manufacture NiMH batteries. Now, using Lithium (a Chinese product without lead!) we get a name, F6E, and a photo.

Life cycle analysis of three battery chemistries for PHEVs and BEVs; environmental impacts higher than expected

Green Car Congress

They compiled a transparent life cycle inventory (LCI) in a component-wise manner for nickel metal hydride (NiMH), nickel cobalt manganese lithium-ion (NCM), and iron phosphate lithium-ion (LFP) batteries. A paper on the study appears in the ACS journal Environmental Science & Technology. —Majeau-Bettez et al.

Roskill: Nickel sulfate to be the key growth area of nickel demand over the next decade; driven by EVs

Green Car Congress

A couple of years ago, the market for nickel sulfate was largely driven by the plating industry and non-Li-ion battery applications such as NiMH and NiCd batteries with stagnated y-o-y growth. However, Roskill cautions, the road will be a bumpy one.

Roskill: automotive batteries and stainless steel to drive nickel demand

Green Car Congress

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) such as the Toyota Prius have been an important market for nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. In recent years, Chinese producers have been investing heavily in nickel pig iron (NPI) plants in Indonesia.
