FEV will showcase some of its 48-Volt technology capabilities at the 2016 SAE World Congress next week in Detroit. In combination with a 48-Volt battery and 12-Volt DC/DC converter, mild hybridization is also possible. FEV says it believes that 48V technology will be the next evolution in in-vehicle power.

A new torque converter provides a wider range of lock-up operation (versus the outgoing 6-speed automatic transmission) to imbue a more enveloping and direct driving feel. In their study, the researchers connected the battery pack and ultracapacitor bank in parallel to the DC link with bi-directional two quadrant buck-boost converters. The battery pack had a minimum allowable state of charge of 20%.

FCA pulled the wraps off the new 2019 Ram 1500 at the Detroit Auto Show. The battery pack includes a 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC inverter to maintain the battery’s state of charge and convert 48 volts to 12 volts to power the Ram 1500’s accessories and charge its conventional 12-volt lead-acid battery.
