As a BYD investor, I'm upset to see them waste so much money on dead technologies like PHEVs/EREVs. Swapping out CO2 for other toxins like ozone and nitrogen oxides is not a solution. As BYD works to eliminate ICE cars, they simultaneously make half their own lineup that depends on ICE obsolete as well.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved a plan to mitigate statewide harm from more than 10,000 tons of smog-causing pollutants released in the state due to Volkswagen’s (VW) use of illegal “defeat devices” in diesel passenger cars. 87,000 of those cars were sold in California. Car and truck engines used to be the largest sources of anthropogenic black carbon emissions in California; the existing air quality policies will virtually eliminate black carbon emissions from on-road diesel engines within 10 years. The team found that both interventions were associated with a decreased exposure to noise, with the effects of 50% electric-powered car being slightly higher.
