The Global Carbon Project (GCP) published its annual analysis of trends in the global carbon cycle in the journal Earth System Science Data , including an updated full-year projection for 2022. Growth in oil use, particularly aviation, and coal use are behind most of the increase in 2022. The decline in 2020 of -5.2%

The Covid-19 crisis in 2020 triggered the largest annual drop in global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions since the Second World War, according to IEA data, but the overall decline of about 6% masks wide variations depending on the region and the time of year. But our numbers show we are returning to carbon-intensive business-as-usual.

And just like Woody, I’d like to sing you a song about a better way… My friends, with greenhouse gas emissions already in the danger zone, we needed to stop burning Killer Coal yesterday. Seems like a perfect use for some stimulus money, don’t it? We cannot afford to wait for them and we don’t have to.
