Duke Energy and FPL Group will begin this transition in the coming years with the goal that 100% of all new fleet vehicles will be plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by 2020. Currently, the only near-term options for available PEV supply are sedans, minivans, vans and a few bucket trucks.

Five projects will enable consumers and fleets to drive alternative fuel vehicles for extended periods of time to help them better understand how these vehicles can meet their everyday needs. Through these demonstrations, fleets will gain operational experience and the project can collect data to provide validation for AFV purchases.

With more options available, Carvana has seen the average sale price of BEVs decrease, dropping from $13,000 in Q1 2023 to just $7,000 a year later. As a larger selection of EVs makes its way into the used fleet, prices normalize, and tax credits become available, more used car buyers will have the opportunity to access the EV category.

In a new study, a team from the University of Central Florida and MIT has found that the US Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards is an effective policy solution that does increase the adoption of EVs, whether it is implemented alone or in conjunction with another policy such as government incentives. in 2016 to almost 10% in 2030.
