Ford will offer a new generation of seven, all-electric, fully-connected passenger vehicles and vans in Europe by 2024. To create the largest impact, the researchers concluded, emphasis should be placed on the largest producers of vehicles; the five largest producers of automotive vehicles in the United States are General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, and Honda. Ford and BASF have teamed up to develop a sustainable, plant-sourced castor oil-based foam product for the 2012 Ford Focus instrument panel. Employing more than 10% renewable content, the resulting foam product passes all Ford performance requirements for interior components. .

Ford and the University of Michigan opened a new $8-million battery lab, housed at the U-M Energy Institute, which will serve as a battery manufacturing facility designed to support pilot projects. Ford, the only automaker to invest in the facility, contributed $2.1 —Ted Miller, Ford’s manager of battery research.

In a pre-Christmas media event, Ford president and CEO Mark Fields said while 2014 was a good year for the company, 2015 has the potential to be a “ breakthrough year ”.
