UK engine plant to build 3-cylinder engines for BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports cars

The new generation of 3-cylinder gasoline engines for the future BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car ( earlier post ) will be produced exclusively at the BMW engine plant at Hams Hall, near Birmingham. Most daily journeys can be taken in zero-emission all-electric mode with an electric range of approximately 20 miles.

EEA: no improvements on average CO2 emissions from new cars registered in 2017 in Europe

For the first year since monitoring started, gasoline cars became the most sold vehicles in the EU, constituting almost 53% of sales. The difference between average fuel efficiency of gasoline cars (121.6 Sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEV) continued to increase—last year by 42%.

EEA report: EVs are better for climate and air quality

Battery electric cars emit less greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their entire life cycle than petrol and diesel cars, according to a European Environment Agency (EEA) report. Emissions are usually higher in the production phase of electric cars, but these are more than offset by lower emissions in the use phase over time.

EEA: Fuel efficiency improvements of new cars in Europe slowed in 2016

Volvo’s Polestar 1 PHEV makes European debut; pre-orders open 13 March

Polestar, Volvo Cars’ new electric performance brand, introduced the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. The combustion engine in the Polestar 1 is a high-performance supercharged and turbocharged gasoline in-line four-cylinder engine. Two electric motors drive the rear wheels.
