Magna has been awarded a contract to manufacture an all-new INEOS Automotive electric off-road vehicle, expected to start production in Graz, Austria in 2026. In addition to manufacturing, Magna will also be responsible for the engineering of the complete vehicle.

The combustion engines with four, six, eight and 12 cylinders produced there will be manufactured at the company’s locations in Steyr in Austria and Hams Hall in the UK going forward. SAIC Mobility Europe, a division of China’s largest vehicle manufacturer, SAIC, is introducing the Maxus light commercial vehicle brand. The Maxus EV80 van has become the first fully electric large panel van on European roads, ahead of the brand’s full launch in 2019. SAIC Mobility Europe was formally established in Luxembourg.

It has already seen enthusiastic pick-up from Polestar 2 owners—more than 400 upgrades have been downloaded in its first weeks of availability since late November. The light commercial vehicle manufacturer, a subsidiary of China’s largest vehicle manufacturer SAIC Motor, is also announcing LeasePlan as its exclusive partner in Europe, as it prepares for its full brand launch in 2019. The fleet division is making the Maxus EV80 available to more than 200 major fleet operators in Europe.
