The California Energy Commission (CEC) approved a three-year, $1.4-billion billion plan to close the state’s funding gap to speed up the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure build-out in support of Governor Gavin Newsom’s executive order phasing out the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger vehicles by 2035.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced that greenhouse gas emissions in California in 2016 fell below 1990 levels for the first time since emissions peaked in 2004—a reduction roughly equivalent to taking 12 million cars off the road or saving 6 billion gallons of gasoline a year.

The proposed GHG emission standards would reduce new passenger vehicle CO 2 emissions to about 166 g/mile—a 34% reduction from MY 2016 levels—based on the projected mix of vehicles sold in California.
