Volvo Cars has published a lifecycle analysis report on its second fully electric car, the C40 Recharge, which shows the potential CO 2 reductions if a car is built and charged using clean energy sources. When charging with electricity generated through fossil fuels, that difference becomes much smaller.

Volvo Cars formally inaugurated a new battery assembly line at its Belgian manufacturing plant in Ghent, where it will start building its first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge P8, later this year. Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain. The XC40 Recharge P8 is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos.

Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Cars could go fully electric in India by around 2025, much ahead of its global target of becoming a full electric car company by 2030, a senior company official said on Tuesday. “We will launch C40 BEV, a pure electric vehicle in quarter four of this year. .”

The battery power can also extend zero-emissions capability along the supply chain by using renewables and hydroelectric power. All hybrid vessels will be capable of charging at the terminal, and some of the vessels will be capable of operating in fully electric mode on shorter routes.

Volvo sold over 113,000 fully electric vehicles in 2023, up 70% compared to 2022. Electric cars accounted for 16% of Volvo’s total vehicle sales in 2023, but this year is expected to be even bigger. More importantly, fully electric vehicles accounted for 23% of total sales.

ABB has won a $20-million order from Swiss bus manufacturer HESS to supply its flash-charging technology ( earlier post ) for 20 e-buses and related infrastructure for the French city of Nantes. A further 1 to 5 minutes of charging at the terminus at the end of the line—at 400 kW—enables a full recharge of the batteries.
