Energy storage installations around the world will multiply exponentially, from a modest 9GW/17GWh deployed as of 2018 to 1,095GW/2,850GWh by 2040, according to the latest forecast from research company BloombergNEF (BNEF). This is a new era of dispatchable renewables, based on new contract structures between developer and grid.

BNEF’s latest Long-Term Energy Storage Outlook sees the capital cost of a utility-scale lithium-ion battery storage system sliding another 52% between 2018 and 2030, on top of the steep declines seen earlier this decade. China, the US, India, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, South Korea and the UK will be the leading countries.

The City of Lancaster will supply guaranteed feedstock of recyclables, and will save between $50 to $75 per ton in landfilling and landfill space costs. It can also provide lowest-cost long-term storage for electrical grids relying on renewable energy. The facility will process 42,000 tons of recycled waste annually.

Navigant’s analysis indicates that only buyers in California and Oregon will purchase sufficient numbers of vehicles in order to meet the ZEV requirement in 2018 and 2019. IER, which runs Autolib, is expanding to Lyon and Bordeaux in France and will have its initial U.S. By 2022, not even California will meet the 10% ZEV requirement.
