The 2017 model of the Porsche 919 Hybrid deploys a range of new innovations, particularly in the vehicle’s aerodynamics, the chassis and the combustion engine. Team Principal Andreas Seidl, who continues to serve as acting technical director, said that for the 2017 season, 60 to 70 percent of the vehicle is newly developed.

The recall is likely to start in July 2017. To optimize the air flow and the fuel mixture preparation, the intake ports (one each for swirl and the other for charging) and the exhaust ports have been modified relative to the predecessor engine. The first component is a large NOC oxidation catalytic converter (NO x oxidation catalyst).

Honda has made significant improvements to the engine and the exhaust system to maximize real world performance. The diesel powertrain has a new NO x Storage Converter (NSC) system with larger catalysts and a higher content of noble metals (silver, platinum and neodymium) that store nitrogen oxide gas until the regeneration cycle.

As part of the SCR technology, exhaust stream emissions were dosed with a mist of a urea substance, commonly known as “AdBlue,” which converted NO x into nitrogen, water, and small amounts of carbon dioxide. The dosing strategy varied injection levels of AdBlue into the exhaust system depending on whether the vehicle was being tested.
