In addition to having an extremely low carbon footprint, MIRUM requires no water during manufacturing and dyeing. NFW was founded in 2015 and is based in Peoria, Illinois. NFW is producing MIRUM formulations that require a fraction of a kg of carbon dioxide equivalent per kg of MIRUM produced.

Other successful initiatives—highlighted in Ford’s 13th annual Sustainability Report—include reductions in water use, waste-to-landfill and CO 2 emissions as well as improvements in vehicle fuel economy and safety. The company also announced plans to reduce usage another 25% on a per-vehicle basis by 2016.

Two years later he was accepted into the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The startup also won a $15,000 Samsung Research innovation prize in 2015.
