We saw the Kia Soul EV spy shots almost three months ago, and now Kia has officially announced that its first battery-electric car will go on sale in the U.S. It''s an electric conversion of the new-for-2014 second generation of its "funky and iconic" Soul tall wagon, which Kia calls an "urban passenger vehicle."

With most of the data now in for April sales of plug-in electric cars, it's looking as though the first four months of 2015 aren't seeing notably higher numbers than those of 2014. As always, there's some slop in the numbers because Tesla Motors, Fiat Chrysler, and Kia Motors refuse to break out their plug-in car sales.

Just over a year ago, the 2015 Kia Soul EV was introduced at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show as the Korean brand''s first U.S.-market market electric car. At the time, Kia said it would launch the Soul EV in California, but would eventually expand sales of the battery-electric tall wagon to four more states.
