An increasing number of British motorists are opting out of the volatile petrol car market, according to the latest LPG (liquid petroleum gas) vehicle sales figures from Proton. Proton’s sales figures reflect a growing dissatisfaction amongst motorists towards the over-inflated price of petrol, which is once again on the rise.

Owners of the electric supercar model, the Tesla Roadster have now clocked up over 10 million miles and saved 500,000 gallons of petrol in the process. Running in over 30 countries, the 1500 Roadster models sold since the model was launched in 2008 have saved over 5.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

With oil prices surging in the summer of 2008, the annual increase in global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from oil, coal, gas and cement production appear to have halved according to preliminary estimates by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. per cent in 2008, compared to 3.3 per cent in 2007.

Of all those awarded funding from the Technology Strategy Board’s Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator Competition, perhaps it comes as less of a surprise to Toyota and its partner EDF Energy. Mayor of London Boris Johnson also sees Toyota as playing a key role in the trials.
