The US Census Bureau released the latest American Community Survey (ACS) data, providing a statistical portrait of the characteristics of the nation’s population in 2008. According to the new snapshot, the percentage of US workers who drove alone to work decreased slightly between 2007 and 2008 from 76.1% in 2008 from 4.9%

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) released an updated oil and gas resource assessment for the Bakken Formation and a new assessment for the Three Forks Formation in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, resulting in a two-fold increase in the estimated technically recoverable oil, and a three-fold increase in estimated natural gas.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of $26 million in grant funding to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing emissions from the US’ existing fleet of diesel engines. Since the first year of the DERA program in 2008, EPA has awarded nearly 700 grants across the US.

Region 8 (Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming) will accept applications requesting up to $2,600,000 in grant funds.

Since the first year of the DERA program in 2008, EPA has competitively awarded more than 790 grants and 420 rebates across the country.
