California’s Environmental Justice Advisory Committee ( EJAC ) is launching a series of statewide meetings to provide residents with the opportunity to meet with local advocates and state officials to share concerns and to provide input on addressing air pollution and how to help California meet its 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Greyrock Energy, a developer of a gas-to-liquids (GTL) process that produces synthetic diesel, will participate with Tsinghua University of Beijing, China and the Desert Research Institute (DRI) of Reno, Nevada to quantify the positive impact on air quality from the use of synthetic diesel fuels as compared with petroleum derived diesel fuels.

The South Bay region I live and work in covers an area of 161 square miles and encompasses 15 cities plus portions of the City of Los Angeles and unincorporated portions of the County of Los Angeles. They’re kind of funny that way. It hardly seems fair.

No one needs to buy another new gas powered car. In 2002 when she was just a freshman California Assemblywoman, this former school teacher worked with Bluewater Network (which later merged with Friends of the Earth ) to author the Assembly Bill that made California the first state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in automobiles.

That 20% goal was made into a law in 2006. It’s just another win for the polluting, greenhouse gas producing utilities and their own fat wallets. California has a Renewable Portfolio Standard that calls for us to be at 20% renewable energy this year, 2010. Right now we’re at about 12% from renewable sources.
