The first of a planned fleet of eight hydrogen fuel cell buses in London will start operating on 18 December. The buses will form the only hydrogen bus fleet in the UK and the largest currently in Europe. This will include the UK’s largest permanent hydrogen refuelling station to be maintained by Air Products.

The London Congestion Charge was first introduced in 2003. There’s also a cleaner vehicle discount of 100% which applies only to battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from 25 October 2021. So, what is it, where does it apply, and are electric cars exempt from congestion charge costs?

The state is aggressively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below 1990 levels by 2050, decrease petroleum fuel use to 15% below 2003 levels by 2020, and increase alternative fuel use to 20% by 2020. The Investment Plan is part of California’s bid to drive down greenhouse gas emissions to 80 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050 and decrease petroleum use to 15 per cent below 2003 levels by 2020. The Energy Commission will provide around $120million annually over the next seven years to develop these fuels and technologies.
