Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be the first to offer Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicles (EVs) for daily and weekly rentals later this month. The Volt vehicles will be available at the Mark Christopher Auto Center in Ontario, Calif., along with a new charging station.

Approximately 2,300 Chevy Volts were sold in California before the Volt became eligible for the CVRP and, therefore, these vehicles are not reflected in the CVRP database. Of those, ZEVs account for 7,404 (52%) and PHEVs for 6,542 (46%).

Chevrolet made 100 Chevrolet Volts available for purchase on a priority basis last September to residents participating the Pecan Street Inc.’s Pecan Street provided an additional rebate of $7,500 for the purchase of a Volt and a $3,000 rebate for residents who leased a Chevrolet Volt for three years or more.

I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. Part of how California got to its million-EV position is by offering substantial rebates to purchasers of new EVs. Would I have bought my Volt without the rebate?
