PowerGenix to supply NiZn batteries for traffic light backup systems

Green Car Congress

Starting in April, PowerGenix NiZn battery packs will be deployed in traffic installations in metropolitan areas in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Using the high power and small size of PowerGenix NiZn battery cells, the UP-Stealth system is a much smaller and lighter package than lead-acid equivalents.

Sandia researchers confirm mechanism by which Li ions move in and out of LFP electrodes

Green Car Congress

Using X-ray and electron microscopy, researchers at Sandia National Laboratories have confirmed the particle-by-particle mechanism by which lithium ions move in and out of electrodes made of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4 , or LFP). The research is reported in a paper in the ACS journal Nano Letters.

JCESR team identifies new mechanism hampering Mg-ion batteries; unforeseen reactivity

Green Car Congress

Rechargeable magnesium batteries are of great interest as potential “beyond Li-ion” systems for extended electric vehicle range. Because magnesium is divalent, it can displace double the charge per ion (i.e., Mg 2+ rather than Li + ). As an element, magnesium is more abundant than lithium, and more stable. Earlier post.)
