This technology makes it possible for the two substances to be routed through the national natural gas grid together and then isolated from one another at their final destination. Germany has a 511,000-kilometer gas grid and 33 gas storage locations. The two substances can be transported together in one line.

The 13 MWh project is now nearing completion after a construction time of just under one year; a total of 1,000 battery systems from second-generation smart fortwo electric drive cars are being grouped into a battery storage in Lünen, Westphalia. The first power units are already in the grid.

Xtreme Power of Austin, Texas, is supplying its Dynamic Power Resource on-site energy storage and power management system. A secondary, smaller solar energy system will be integrated at a later date to power lighting systems at Michigan Assembly. Installation of the system begins later this year.
