That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. Our nameless reviewer felt , back in 2006, that the Vue's panel gaps made it the "automotive equivalent of a shotgun shack" and calculated that the Green Line version would require 90,000 miles of driving with $2.15/gallon

The first, a Saturn Vue called the eMOOve, will be a series hybrid, to be completed in 2012. In order to fuel an RCCI engine, a gas station pump must be able to dispense both gasoline or ethanol, and diesel or biodiesel, simultaneously. Bower’s team will use ethanol instead of gasoline, and biodiesel instead of standard diesel.

The school already conducts research into the development of the no-gas vehicles. General Motors is also on the plug-in bandwagon with its Saturn Vue Green Line. The Vue Green Line will get a two-mode hybrid powertrain later this year and a plug-in variant will be introduced in 2009.

As underscored last month when GM announced it would build a plug-in hybrid version of its Saturn Vue, the logic of electric propulsion is compelling. And if the car should need to exceed its all-electric range, a small, hyper-clean gas-powered generator would be aboard to charge the battery.

We may need ICE vehicles to get there (gas cars will serve for long distance travel even as EVs come to market, I believe) but they should be parked and forgotten. Contracts for lithium batteries for the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue and the Chevrolet Volt have received much press.
