The Kenworth T680 day cab’s fuel cell produces electricity to power the dual-rotor electric motor to move the truck, or it can recharge the lithium-ion batteries for use later. The T680 has been running trials in the Seattle area and performing very well. Kenworth’s hydrogen fuel-cell T680 is a reality.

The program includes the installation of 10 alternative fuel refueling sites (two B20, one Electric Recharging, and seven CNG). Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

The concept behind V2G had gained traction in the late 1990s after California’s landmark zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) mandate went into effect and compelled automakers to commercialize electric cars.
