EPA released the latest edition of its annual report on trends in CO 2 emissions, fuel economy and powertrain technology for new personal vehicles in the US. Fuel economy has now increased in eight of the last nine years; average carbon dioxide emissions are also at a record low of 369 g/mile in model year 2013.

Kia’s 48V mild hybrid system uses a lead-carbon battery. Kia revealed a new mild hybrid powertrain as well as its new 7-speed DCT at the Geneva Motor Show. Kia Motors has provided a few more details on the new hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains planned for the all-new Optima, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to broaden its global range of low-emission vehicles. These changes are expected to contribute to a 10% improvement in fuel economy over earlier versions of the Optima Hybrid.
