UTA and the University of Utah received a $5.4-million million Low-No grant from the US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to purchase five New Flyer battery-electric buses. Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state. The project selections were approved as part of the Low- or No-Emission (Low-No) Grant program, which funds the deployment of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses and supporting equipment and facilities. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of grant funding to implement projects which reduce emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of older diesel engines. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of $26 million in grant funding to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing emissions from the US’ existing fleet of diesel engines. Since the first year of the DERA program in 2008, EPA has awarded nearly 700 grants across the US.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $8 million to communities in 21 states and Puerto Rico to reduce emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of diesel engines through the agency’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act ( DERA ) program. EPA estimates that every $1 in DERA funding generates up to $13 in health care savings.
