The HyBoost project ( earlier post ), a two-year collaborative research program led by Ricardo in partnership with Controlled Power Technologies, the European Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium, Ford, Imperial College London, and Valeo, aims to demonstrate a very cost-effective, ultra-efficient gasoline engine in a C-segment passenger car.

This is partly due to the fact that the new hybrid (air and water) cooling helps reduce the thruster’s weight and directs more power toward propulsion of the ship, not cooling requirements. Fuel consumption—and thus exhaust emissions—are reduced due to improved hydrodynamic efficiency and the power plant concept.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, launched a £86.1-million million (US$111 million) program to retrofit around 5,000 older buses with a new exhaust system that will upgrade the vehicles to Euro VI emissions standards. From next year, all new double-deck buses will be hybrid, electric or hydrogen.
