The North American International Auto Show marked the return of the diesel-powered S-Class saloon car to the US market. At the event, Mercedes debuted the all-wheel-drive S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC which features a urea selective catalytic reduction emissions after-treatment system in which AdBlue is injected into the exhaust flow.

BMW discussed the idea during its recent Innovation Days 2009 event and looked at projects including reducing cold starts; using waste heat for different heating applications; and the implementation of a thermoelectric generator for waste heat recovery. BMW hopes to fit a larger thermoelectric generator in the exhaust system in the future.
