This new company, Bright Automotive , is founded by ex-GM EV1 people, and the super efficient Rocky Mountain Institute to make plug-in hybrids in Indiana. Granted, nearly every other electric car company is trying to increase performance through aerodynamics and new construction materials. But it does have experience on its side.

Why then, would GM start its oh-so-serious push into modern electric vehicles with the EV version of the truck which — seemingly by fate — ramped its production just as GM was killing off the EV1 program? Granted, the documents only reference the Hummer EV’s 1,000-hp, $110,295 Edition 1 version, but the specs are pretty telling. .

Unfortunately there are still damn few J-plugs (the new standard for plug-in cars) publicly deployed, despite the expectations created by the federal grants to the EVProject (Ecotality) and ChargePoint America (Coulomb) and ex-Mayor Newsom here in San Francisco. The situation is similarly bleak in Southern California.
