Tesla’s Model 3 led the BEV and premium midsize sedan rankings in Europe in February, according to JATO Dynamics. The hotly anticipated car excelled during its first full month on the European market and became the best-selling BEV. Demand also increased by 81% in Germany, which was the largest market for BEVs in February.

A new study by Deloitte, the business advisory firm, concludes that despite rising fuel prices, the mass adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe is still some distance away. I believe there is potential for green vehicles to represent 10% of the new car market within 10 years, although the road to get there will be bumpy.

In the first quarter of 2009, automotive production in Europe fell by 35% to 3.4 While fleet renewal schemes (vehicle scrappage) have helped segments of the passenger car market in some countries, overall vehicle demand in Europe went further down as well. In Austria, production went down by 69.2%.
