The Mayor is supporting proposals for the UK Government to help motorists by offering between a £1,000 and £2,000 (US$1,614 to US$3,228) grant per vehicle for the most polluting diesels which are more than 12 months old. This is little more than a panicked way of propping up the industry as, given time; those cashing in the grants would most likely have bought the new car anyway.
