If hydrogen is collected from renewable sources such as wind and solar power, there are no climate-damaging emissions. However, the means of transporting this “green” hydrogen from the producer to the consumer are not established; Germany still does not have an extensive distribution network for hydrogen.

In Germany, all Mercedes-Benz plants will be supplied with CO 2 -neutral energy. From 2022, the production of our Mercedes-Benz plants in Germany will operate CO 2 -neutral. As part of the electric offensive, Mercedes-Benz Cars counts on local emission-free vehicles. The plant will start operating in 2019.

The bus is also fitted with a Solaris High Power battery acting as an additional electric power storage facility. Since the première of the hydrogen bus in June 2019, Solaris has been awarded orders from the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for 57 buses in total. The hydrogen is stored on the roof in five tanks.

The production of 5 million metric tons of green ammonia produced per year would eliminate 13 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, the equivalent of taking 9 million gasoline-fueled cars off the road. These projects will be the world’s first commercial-scale, green ammonia production facilities with operation planned for 2025.
