The Ford Motor Company has selected Toshiba Corporation to supply automotive inverters for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Ford plans to start mass production of new models of both kinds of vehicle in 2012.

Toshiba will begin construction for the expanded capacity in January 2011 in Houston, Texas, on the site of Toshiba International Corporation.

Houston Chronicle. Texas state Senator Kip Averitt, R-Waco has filed an omnibus clean-air and energy bill that would give a $4,000 state subsidy to plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) buyers.
