The Ford Motor Company has selected Toshiba Corporation to supply automotive inverters for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Toshiba already has a June 2010 contract with Ford under which it will supply high-performance drive motors for HEV and PHEV from 2012, from its facility in Houston, Texas.

A study by researchers at the University of Texas found that in general, use of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) can lead to an increase in ozone during nighttime hours (due to decreased scavenging from both vehicles and EGU stacks) and a decrease in ozone during daytime hours. The results are less clear in Dallas and Houston.

Toshiba Corporation will expand manufacturing capacity at its plant in Houston, Texas for production of the high-performance drive motors for HEV, PHEV and EV applications. Toshiba will begin construction for the expanded capacity in January 2011 in Houston, Texas, on the site of Toshiba International Corporation.

Houston Chronicle. Texas state Senator Kip Averitt, R-Waco has filed an omnibus clean-air and energy bill that would give a $4,000 state subsidy to plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) buyers. Rick Perry first proposed a tax credit of $5,000 for plug-in hybrids buyers in his State of the State speech last month.
