I know that hub motors have issues because of the sprung weight - especially a vehicle that will be traveling over rough terrain. What if four motors were used, with each motor mounted near the center (left to right) of the vehicle and a half shaft connecting the motor to the wheel?

This is fairly low-voltage, so I wonder which types of motors are suitable for me. The Hyper9-type motors that you often find in EV conversion kits are good of course, but expensive compared to a used Nissan Leaf motor for example – which also comes with a diff, all ready to connect to the drive shaft.

Purchasing DIY Geo Metro EV for beginner The rest of the system is there and ran when parked but I’m unsure about what brand the components are. I am looking at bringing in some 10KW DC brushless hub motors from Hong Kong for testing purposes. 10 KW Hub motor with 15 inch rim I am fairly new to this EV thing. They are rated at 48 to 300 V and 200A to 400A. They are equipped with a brake rotor and rim for 15 inch tires. They would be FOB from Phoenix.

I have acquired a large number of Cascadia iM225DX-D Motor Inverter drive systems. These consist of the CM200 Inverter and the SS-250-115 Motor, paired at Cascadia to create the iM225-DX-D. This style can be helpful in mounting the motor in tight spaces and is functionally identical to the normal configuration.

Hi all I'm in the early stages of putting a Leaf motor (EM57) into a 93 Subaru Sambar. Or I was, it turns out the leaf motor is too wide and would intersect with the rear right half shaft by about an inch. So directly connecting the leaf motor to the transmission input is a no-go. Looking for a small motor (or advice)

Also, keep in mind that low rpm torque isn't the aim when going electric, that uses a lot of battery capacity, so you are looking at spinning the electric motor fairly fast to get that rock crawling ability, and that requires higher battery voltage. That will tell you a lot about what you need for horsepower and torque from an EV motor.

I don't think the ambient temperature matters much, because all modern EV motors run high enough power density that they need active (normally liquid, often oil) cooling; their internal operating temperature can get pretty high, even in a temperate climate.
