2016 Billion Ton Report shows US could sustainably produce at least 1B tons biomass by 2040 for bioeconomy

Green Car Congress

New to the 2016 report is novel assessments of potential biomass supplies from algae, from new energy crops (miscanthus, energy cane, eucalyptus), and from municipal solid waste. For the first time, the report also considers how the cost of pre-processing and transporting biomass to the biorefinery may impact feedstock availability.

Co-Electrolysis of CO2 and H2O for the Production of Liquid Fuels

Green Car Congress

In May, the Lenfest Center and Risø DTU hosted a one-day conference—“Sustainable Fuels from CO 2 , H 2 O, and Carbon-Free Energy”—addressing technologies that can be used to recycle CO 2 into carbon-neutral liquid hydrocarbon fuels using renewable or nuclear energy. The co-electrolysis process was featured in several of the talks.

The Case for Nuclear Cargo Ships

Cars That Think

The first was the American NS Savannah , built in the late 1950s at a cost of $46.9 Producing enough renewable, carbon-free ammonia for shipping—about 600 million tonnes a year—using electrolyzers that split water molecules to produce hydrogen, would use 12 megawatt-hours per tonne of ammonia.
