Attaining environmental benefits and lower cost of ownership are driving more commercial fleets to electrify, according to a new study by UPS and GreenBiz. The top motivation to go electric for 83% of large businesses surveyed is sustainability and environmental goals.

The digesters will use the waste to produce biomethane to be converted into renewable compressed natural gas fuel. The project will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting food waste from landfills that release methane gas directly into the atmosphere. in Oakland (Alameda County), will receive a total of $680,000.

The California Energy Commission unanimously approved funding of more than $15 million to projects that will advance biofuels and electric vehicle research in California. Sales would increase because with increased fuel economy the overall cost of operating a car will go down and, consequently, consumers will have more spending power to buy more vehicles or more expensive vehicles, the report suggests. Other automakers would likely record a 3% uptick in sales representing around 300,000 vehicles.

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding $100 million in Economic Recovery Act funding to 43 transit agencies for projects to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from both vehicles and facilities. AC Transit, California (Hayward, headquarters in Oakland): $6,400,000.
