Researchers at the University of California, Davis have developed a process for the production of branched C 7 –C 10 hydrocarbons in the gasoline volatility range from biomass-derived levulinic acid with good yield, operating under relatively mild conditions, with short reaction times. barrels of oil (117.6 gallons US).

University of California, Davis was awarded $900,000 to investigate emissions and leakages within California’s natural gas infrastructure. Anaergia Services of Carlsbad received $395,121 to demonstrate a process which will convert green waste into renewable natural gas.

These fermentation processes create carbon as a byproduct, with some processes wasting more than 1/3 of this carbon as CO 2 emissions. The carbon-optimized conversion technology developed under this project can be integrated with multiple CO 2 sources, such as corn grain ethanol refining (near-term) and direct air capture (mid-long term).
