Appalachian area natural gas producer EQT Corporation launched a pilot program to begin converting drilling rigs to liquefied natural gas (LNG), displacing the diesel used to power equipment at the well site. The LNG being used for EQT’s pilot program is produced locally from Marcellus natural gas reserves.

Accelergy Corporation has received a $1.3-million million grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to move forward on the construction of a facility to demonstrate its integrated coal-biomass-to-liquids (CBTL) technology platform ( earlier post ) at Intertek PARC, located at the U-PARC facility in Pittsburgh.

Acreage in Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio and Pennsylvania will be designated to grow giant miscanthus, a sterile hybrid warm-season grass that can be converted into energy to be used for heat, power, liquid biofuels, and bio-based products. The deadline to sign up for the project areas will be announced at a later date.
