The US Environmental Agency (EPA) has granted California’s waiver request enabling the state to enforce its greenhouse gas emissions standards (Pavley I) for new motor vehicles, beginning with the current model year. California requested from EPA the waiver required for implementation of the Pavley regulations in December 2005.

Clean Energy Capital LLC , a US private equity firm specializing solely in investments in ethanol, is developing the first major sugarcane ethanol refinery in the continental United States, in the Imperial Valley of California. California-based electric car and battery company CODA Automotive ( earlier post ), together with its China-based joint venture partner, Lishen Power Battery, has secured $394 million of committed capital. In 2009 CODA also entered into a joint venture with Connecticut-based Yardney Technical Products, Inc.—CODA Earlier post.

Only three states (California, Nevada and Oregon) had cooler-than-average temperatures in April. Record warmth prevailed in Illinois and the northeast, namely Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Jersey, each of which had its warmest April on record. Tags: Brief.
