A prototype plug-in hybrid retrofit kit is applied to a research vehicle’s rear wheels. After switching on the traction motors, the vehicle fuel economy increased from 50–100%. For 2024, both will come standard with a Direct Connection Stage kit already fitted, to allow maximum acceleration from launch. The R/T with the Stage 1 kit is quoted at 496 horsepower, while the more powerful Scat Pack with a Stage 2 kit produces up to 670 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Power matters, but range? No one cares!

ALTe already has Gen 1 proof-of-concept systems running in a Crown Vic taxi equipped with a 20 kWh Li-ion battery pack. In the Crown Victoria, the proof of concept powertrain conversion systems improve fuel economy from 80%-200% from the base 4.6L 20 kWh pack in the proof-of-concept Crown Vic conversion.
