The ChangAn CA18 FlexDI Concept Engine shown at Auto China 2008. Ltd, China’s fourth largest automotive manufacturer, have entered into a joint development contract for a concept engine. If the program is successful, Changan plans to take the FlexDI concept engine to mass production in a Changan vehicle.

The design calls for a scalable battery that makes an all-electric driving range feasible, enabling zero local emissions driving in city centers.

The engine was invented by Herns Louis, veteran of more than 30 years in the parts manufacturing industry ranging from automotive to aerospace, specializing in computerized parts machining. The technology can be easily adapted to existing engines, making the implementation very cost effective.

The new ECONAMIQ technology builds on existing concepts such as cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing with a unique patented combination of routing gasses for increased system efficiency. The company presented its first results at the annual ASME ICEF (Internal Combustion Engine Fall) conference in Chicago.

Australia-based Revetec is designing what it calls the Controlled Combustion Engine (CCE)—a cam-drive gasoline spark-ignited internal combustion engine that is smaller, lighter, cleaner, less expensive to manufacture and that produces higher torque due to higher mechanical transfer than equivalent conventional engines.
